Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator

The City of Carrizo Springs is accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator.

Essential Duties

Drives road grader dozer, scraper, loader, and other heavy construction equipment; as assigned, digs garbage pits, covers garbage, fills over and maintains refuse areas as assigned. Loads and drives trucks and equipment to and from work site; checks and maintains vehicle and equipment prior to, during and after use; conducts and performs routine maintenance; checks oil, hydraulic fluid, water level and other areas; operates a variety of related equipment, hand tools, equipment, and other items; assists other city departments. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, exposure to extreme weather conditions, infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, traffic hazards and other construction-industry and related risks and dangers. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky equipment supplies and/or materials weighing up to 80 pounds.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or GED AND three years of relevant, responsible heavy construction equipment operation associated with landfill operations or closely related responsibilities preferred. Must be eligible to obtain within one year of employment and must retain Waste Screening Certification from the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission.
