Landfill Attendant

Job Announcement

The City of Carrizo Springs is accepting applications for the position of Landfill Attendant.

Essential Duties

• Determines APPROPRIATE LANDFILL DUMPING FEE; ADVISES CUSTOMERS OF FEE; ACCEPTS AND POSTS PAYMENTS FOR USE OF THE City of Carrizo Springs' landfill.
• Issues receipts: reconciles collections and makes deposits.
• Works with and assists customers in person and by phone; directs customers to appropriate location within the landfill to unload refuse.
• Maintains numerous financial, landfill  usage and related reports and records as assigned.
• Screens refuse to determine compliance with state and Federal Landfill requirements.
• Identifies and removes - or advises supervisor - of hazardous, non­ compliant materials.

• Must be eligible to obtain within one year of employment and must retain Waste Screening Certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
• May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
• May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky materials, supplies, refuse, or other items weighing up to 80 pounds.

• Work outdoors regardless of weather (hot, cold, or wet)

• Landfill maintenance including tree trimming, mowing and weed eating.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or GED AND three years of relevant, responsible heavy construction equipment operation associated with landfill operations or closely related responsibilities preferred.
